Hayride 2009

We joined the rest of the family to go on the haunted hayride at Yahoo farms, which we have done on and off for the past 6 years. It was fun, and not too cold-which was very nice. This is the first year all the kids actually went on the hayride and Kit did pretty well, but Riley spent much of the ride with his eyes closed! This year I managed to get three armed Willie's extra arm, which is a battle in our family and I'm sure anyone else on the ride with us hates it, because one of us gets it every year. We also got to celebrate Elaina's 8th birthday, I cannot believe she is 8 already!!

Burt's Pumpkin Farm

We joined the hordes of residents of North Georgia in making the annual pilgrimage to Dawsonville, just to get a few pictures with pumpkins! We did get to go on a Friday though thanks to Hall county's fall break which I am thankful for, because it was still pretty busy-so I can't imagine trying to keep up with Riley and Kit during a busy weekend visit! We found three unique pumpkins, Riley picked out a green pumpkin, Kit picked out a waxy whitish/orangish pumpkin, and I picked out a white one. Of course we don't actually have any pictures of the pumpkins we bought, I'll get around to those later!
I did discover an advantage to being the single mom, the line was about 25 people long, and everyone had full wheelbarrows, while we only had three pumpkins. So one of the guys working there walked us to the front of the line and gave our money to the cashier so we got to cut in front of everyone!! It may not have been fair, but I wasn't quite sure how I would keep two kids from just going crazy while waiting in that line, and I can only imagine that they helped me because it was pretty clear that it was just the three of us-so I was exceedingly grateful and HIGHLY recommend Burt's farm!!

Gwinnett County Fair

We headed down to the Gwinnett County fair a few weeks ago, it was a pretty day and I thought the kids might enjoy it. I failed to realize that even though we don't live too far from Gwinnett, it is a HUGE county-so it took us over an hour to get there, but we made it. Riley and Kit had a great time with all the rides, games, livestock, and 'fair food'!! Riley thought he was pretty cool since he was the only one big enough to ride this little roller coaster, and the lady was nice enough to let them take a few extra rides too.

The bats are from the one game I let them play, where I pretty much paid a dollar for them to just pick out their own prize-Kit wouldn't even pick up the boat for the game! She had to have the same exact prize as Riley too, at least they don't fight over them! It was fun, but tiring-Kit even fell asleep when we stopped for dinner, she just curled up in the booth next to me and went to sleep! I realized once again though, that it isn't much fun being outnumbered by the kids. Kit gets pretty pokey after walking for a while and she's too heavy to carry, so while I'm trying to hurry her along, Riley is running off in every direction yelling about all the awesome stuff he sees! I'll add this to the list of activities that we either have to wait another five years to do, or find some sucker who will go with us!!
