Broken Arm/Oral Surgery

So Riley has had a bumpy start to the summer, first he fell and broke his wrist Memorial day weekend. He had a buckle fracture on his wrist, the first picture is his splint from quick care, which wasn't too bad except it got pretty dirty and was covered in dog hair by the time we made it to the orthopedic surgeon that friday. This is Riley's third broken bone, but it was his first cast. He picked a glow in the dark cast, which didn't cause problems like I thought it might at bedtime, but the really cool part is that the cast was waterproof!! Great news for the summertime, he swam in it and played at Lake Lanier Islands in it with absolutely NO problems! He also got quite a few signatures on it!!
Next up was Riley's surgery; we had scheduled this surgery back in March, so it was just rotten timing that it fell during the broken arm time, but it wasn't a bad experience at all. Riley was severely tonguetied as you can see in the first picture. He couldn't even touch the top of his mouth with his tongue, it was attached almost right up to the back of his front teeth. So we went ahead and got it clipped to hopefully avoid speech and other issues in the future. The procedure was quick, I went back with him and got to stay through when they put him to sleep. They came to get me about 15 - 20 minutes later, we drove around back to pick him up and we were on our way home after less than an hour at the surgeon's office! Thankfully my mom had come to help out and my friend Jennifer kept Kit, so I was able to focus all attention on Riley. He did really well, but was sore by the time we got home-mostly because his dopey mom didn't think to bring any tylenol or motrin with us and the doctor was all the way in Dawsonville! When we got home he got pretty cranky between his mouth hurting and his left leg-which had jerked up during the anesthesia-he said it hurt too. After he took some motrin we sat on the couch for about an hour while I rubbed his leg until he was feeling better. He lived on yogurt, pudding, scrambled eggs, and ice cream for the next 2 days while his mouth healed. The second picture is the day after surgery and you can see all the crazy stiches (it made me think of frankenstein, but don't tell him that!) and the last picture is from today, it is healed up and looking like a normal tongue!! Last is the video he wanted to make of his cast the day it came off. I couldn't actually videotape that for liability blah blah blah reasons. He has a wrist splint he has to wear for another 2 weeks, but he is doing great!!
